- Understand the importance of the consultation
- Describe the structure, layers, and mechanisms of the scalp
- List the purpose and function of the scalp skin
- List and describe the three layers of the hair shaft
- Describe the process for each of the 3 stages of hair growth
- Discuss types of hair loss as they relate to hair services
- Recognize hair and scalp disorders commonly seen in the salon
- Identify common disorders and diseases of the scalp, skin, and hair
- Understand when Hair Braiding services can be performed on a client with a disorder or disease of the scalp and when should the client with a disease or disorder be referred to physician and when services are prohibited.
- Describe treatments used for these disorders and when to refer a client to a physician
UNIT 4
Laws and Rules for the Florida Hair Braider

After this unit a student shall be able to:
- To define the limitations of the authority of the Board of Cosmetology;
- To define the rulemaking authority of the Board of Cosmetology;
- To understand the qualifications for licensure;
- To understand the procedures and context of examinations;
- To comprehend the requirements for cosmetology salons and inspections;
- To be aware of the disciplinary proceedings and penalties for violations of Chapter 477, F.S.;
- To understand the complaint procedures for violations of Chapter 477, F.S., or the rules promulgated pursuant thereto;
- To understand the requirements through rules and regulations for license renewal; and
- To know the fees and their disposition.
